Singapore Vacation part 2 :)

Here is a detailed description of how we spent our time at Singapore and Malaysia, having the time of our life...

Day 1 - Musthafa Shopping Mall and City Square Mall - We were rather tired since we had barely got any sleep. We set out to find lunch at Little India and went to Saravana Bhavan. After this we walked to Musthafa center which was just a stone's throw away. We spent a good 2 hours buying nothing :) First impressions about Singapore:

  • Yash : 'Are we there yet? Wow! Amazing! Love the bubble tea dad..... When are we going here... there... everywhere.....'
  • Me : 'We finally made it here, how's it gonna turn out? I hope we all have a good time'
  • Vickram: 'What a beautiful city! Can't wait to see the city through my lens'
  • My Mother in Law: 'Why do all the women here wear such skimpy clothes? ;)

Next we walked to City Square Mall again a stone's throw (though you really gotta swing the stone far;) ) as we had promised Yash he would see a Toys R Us store. We bought some absolutely  random nonsense here that cost us a small fortune. But it was worth it when we saw Yash's excitement. That night, after Yash and my MIL slept, me and Vickram went back to Musthafa to pick up chocolates. Tip - Best buy is chocolates and luggage at Musthafa.

Day 2 -  Esplanade Waterfront  and Night Safari - We took a taxi from our hotel near Serangoon Road and reached Esplanade waterfront in 10 minutes. The walk along the waterfront was pleasant and relaxing. As the city of Singapore was getting ready to welcome the new year, we found that there were message balls placed at the esplanade, that would later be lowered into the water. A lovely sight! And yes, Yash left a message wishing everyone a great new year :)

The lovely view of the Merlion from Esplanade

We took a lot of pictures, and by that I mean, we posed for many while my husband Vickram exercised his trigger happy finger :) We soaked in the sights and made our way to the Merlion park. We spent some time here, again stoking Vickram's photography passion. From there we took a taxi to China Town as we'd heard that this would be ideal for souvenirs. Since it was soon lunch time, we looked for a vegetarian place. After asking around a bit, we found a place that claimed to be 100% vegetarian. When we went in, the menu read chicken, fish, and so on. So we asked. The couple who run the place still maintained that it was purely vegetarian. In fact it was organic, vegetarian chicken. Really? Maybe the chicken was a vegetarian.... Not too sure, we ordered one spaghetti dish. Yash enjoyed that. The rest of us made do with a few crackers and left. If you are a vegetarian and are venturing to any part of Singapore other than Little India, I suggest you pack something to tide you over.
The same day evening we visited the Night Safari. The crowd was maddening. However, the way the lines were made and the crowd managed, was really convenient and we did not feel the wait too much. Through the entire trip we made it a point to pick up maps wherever available. You've got to love Singapore for making their city tourist friendly. Yash was very excited that he would see so many animals. As we waited for the tram, we looked at the map and had big, long discussions about the animals we were going to see. He enjoyed the tram ride that took us through the reserve. The map also listed a few trails that we could do by walk. Though at first, Yash wanted to do those as well, it was dark by the time the tram ride ended. He contemplated walking between the animals in the dark and decided against it. We believe that if he is given the choice, he will make the choice that we would've anyways made for him but since he made the choice, he will be happier to follow it.

The Night Safari Map that Yash was excited to follow.....

That's two eventful days. 'Lekin picture abhi baaki hain mere dost!' More to come in the next few posts....
